Gonna be sick...

Honestly, I think i'm going to be sick.

For a good while now i've been uploading pictures onto a webpage so that my family & friends can have a look into my life here in college. Its worked out great for a long time, and I still put pictures up there for this blog and for others. Lately though, there has been this outpouring of porn onto this site. I'm sure its always been there and i'm just now noticing it (i'm really not that naive). The thing that makes me sick is that these people keep sending me invitations to become friends with them, and when I look at their profile all this ameatur porn comes up. And it keeps getting worse. Today there was a page with an obese ugly woman on it in very little clothing (not porn but just... eew...). She was posing in these photos, and men would leave comments about the pictures... Really gross comments. If you went and looked at these men's profiles, most of them were married (and their wives weren't by any means ugly) with pictures of their families on their webpages. Now i'm not floored by all this. A long time ago I learned just exactly how big and popular porn is. The numbers are something like 1 in 3 or 4 are addicted (men that is) have a serious problem with it. So generally, though its really painful to watch, i'm sympathetic because I see the trend. That web page though... *shivers*.. I just don't get. The pictures made me sick already, but realizing that the guys who were leaving those comments were my friends and mentors.... Just makes me really hurt and angry. I want to tell every one of them that they're fake and I never should have looked up to them... Of course I'd never manage to say all that. I'd end up sobbing... This is a little strange for me, I know, I don't usually get this way.

People have told me that this stuff isn't personal. It's not about me. I don't buy that at all. It is about me. Its telling me that i'm not good enough. Its not good enough just to be the person I am and hold a guy's attention. They take something meant to be beautiful and selfless and make it into a self-absorbed addiction. More more more more. What the hell? It just makes me so frustrated. Maybe it's because its not something I can help. Its not about me. Maybe thats it. It somehow implies that I have failed; that love fails. These people (both the viewers and the publishers) go against what I stand for, and destroy the things I value and work so hard to uphold. They destroy people and they destroy relationships.

I really haven't been angry in a long time, but today i'm angry about this.

I'm sorry if this is something you struggle with. I'm not here to make you feel worse about something you already regret, and I support you in your efforts. If you are reading this and don't understand what i'm saying or why i'm upset, I'm sorry for your confusion. But if you can sit there and say to yourself that porn is in no way related to love then i'm going to disagree with you. Is sex related to love? yes. Its not casual and impersonal, its about loving another person. If you're telling someone you love them and then getting ahold of porn for your own purposes, then you'd better re-examine your first statement.
*sigh* alright. Well i'm going to stop raving for now. talk to you soon!

LAST DAY OF CLASSES!!!

Well today has been a fantabulous day! Its the LAST DAY OF CLASSES!!!!
I can't talk long, my roommate and I are getting ready to go publically wrestle... Just smile and nod, i'll explain if you ask.
I just wanted to leave you with that thought and an amusing conversation I had today with Will... hehehe..
Later!

Will: I don't eat tofu in anything
Me: hehe nor do I
Will:: I don't like the texture and it simply soaks up whatever flavor everything else has. It's the mooch of the food world and I won't stand for it
Me: yeah... its in the same category as spam in my book.
Will:: I think you should write a book
Me: haha yeah, that could be fun
Will: giving foods different personalities and categories to explain their characteristics
Will: It could bring the pound cake back into style
Will: :-)
Me: lol
Me: psh! pound cake never went out of style
Will: Really? I was under the impression that it was getting hard to convince people to throw in a pound of lard into whatever they are cooking.
Me: its true
Me: even I hesitate at the thought of lard/shortening
Me: though i'll have none of this margerine crap
Will: lol. You're great
Me: haha well thanks!
Me: butter should not come in spray bottles eithe. That is revolting
Will: Wow—you're a traditionalist
Will: A slab of butter isn't?
Me: no butter is good
Me: just no spray on butter (its not butter or margerine.. I don't know what it is. probably just some labratory created lipid) like "olesta" and that fake cheese you put on nachos
Me: alright enough food ranting on my part
Will: laboratory created lipid
Will: Might have to be my phrase of the day
Me: lol
Will: Kind of hard to sneak into conversation, though
Me: not really
Me: "you're a labratory created lipid" is always good
Will: LOL
Me: or "your mom... or your face.." etc...
Will: lol
Will: I miss you
Me: I miss you too
Me: :-D
Me: mmm I should go to astronomy
Me: i'm late
Will: Ok
Me: but this has been a rewarding conversation. lol
Will: I've learned a lot
Will: bye and good luck

2 weeks 'till sanity...

Hey everyone,

Sorry its been so long. Things around here have been slightly more than crazy. The other day I tasted a bit of insanity in the library. After about 6 hours (no break) of isolation there, everything I was writing started to seem extremely funny... Thank God none of you witnessed it or you might have tried to commit me. Try as you might have, you would have had to pry my little white computer from my lifeless little hands. Luckily the state was fleeting and a short trip to the cafe brought me back to reality. I've spent the last few days locked away in the library meticulously writing an exegetical paper for religion (a style that is completely new to me, making it take longer). I'm under a lot of pressure to do well on this paper because its worth 30% of my grade and my only test grade so far was less than ideal...

Things have taken a turn for the better in the past few days, however. I got back one of my religion papers (worth 19% of my grade) and to my surprise I received an "A" on it!! Praise God for that grade. I was beginning to think that the study of His word was impossibly hard. I occasionally wonder what the theological connotations of getting a bad grade in religion are... hehe.. Only kidding. ;-) Anyways, I feel much better with the affirmation that I am capable of good theology writing... Now I just have to apply it to the mother paper which is due Monday...I think I now know my breaking point, so I've been trying to work around that knowledge. There is a dorm dance tonight that I had planned on skipping to work on the paper. However I think going would be a good break for my mind.. Plus I love dancing. And, if I don't go I'll be hearing for weeks how much fun everyone had... Obviously the odds are stacked in favor of going. hehehe.

The Lessons and Carols concert is this weekend! It's going to be completely amazing. I love our choir so much! I'm so thankful to finally be in a choir that is genuinely good. Not to sound snooty 'cause I've been in a lot of good choirs in the past. The problem was that they were in high school and only lasted for a weekend or so. I think I could live my life training in a good choir for hours everyday. That's what I really loved about high school honor choirs; working all day long to perfect the sound of a piece. Nothing in the world compares to that moment when something clicks and everyone is unified in one sound.

Well for now I must go drink my coffee, write more of my paper, and prepare for the dance. I miss you all a lot, but it won't be too long before I get to see you!

Will- I love you and I am more grateful for you everyday. We'll be home soon!
Wittwer- I can't wait to see you again!! I love you and I miss you!
Mom & Dad- I love you both and I'm coming home soon =D.
Ben- I hope are going well! Tell your family I say "hi" and I hope to see you all soon.

I'm not quite sure who else reads this regularly.... But
To all my friends- You are all a wonderful blessing in my life and I couldn't imagine life without you. Expect an exceptionally large and prolonged hug when I see you again. Don't even try to resist, I will get what I want! hehehe.

Happy Finals Week to all and remember: don't hurt yourselves, you have but one brain to kill.

Signed,
a slightly stressed, but ever-optimistic
Laura

misc. stuff

Let's forget about the tongue-tied lightning
Let's undress just like cross-eyed strangers
This is not a joke, so please stop smiling
What was I thinking when I said it didn't hurt?

I want to glide through those brown eyes dreaming
Take it from the inside, baby hold on tight
You were so right when you said that I've been drinking
What was I thinking when I said good night?

I want to hold you in the Bible-black predawn
You're quite a quiet domino, bury me now
Take off your Band-Aid because I don't believe in touchdowns
What was I thinking when I said hello?

HASH(0x8d7bc4c)
you would look very calm and very pretty. people
may see you as some one they can use because of
your peacefulness. however you see straight to
the truth, and know when people are lying to
you. you are reletively quiet, but you see and
hear everything. you like to read and learn...
and thats a good thing. it keeps you ahead of
the rabble that follow behind

So what would you look like as an anime character, oh ive only got girls here... but if people like it then i could make a guy one...

Concert Time.

Man.

I'm SO hungry I could eat an entire COW...

Our choir is performing with the Grand Rapids symphony in a week and a half and we had a 3 hour rehearsal today with the maestro. And, of course, the rehearsal was scheduled from 11:00am - 1:00pm... I, being the intelligent girl I am, decided that 1/2 a poptart would be enough to hold me over 'till after rehearsal and my 1:00 advising appointment. Bad choice... At 2pm I darted into our on-campus fast food joint and demolished a cheeseburger. And God saw that it was good... lol... perhaps i've spent a little too much time in the Old Testament.

The maestro was really cool. He was a very sophisticated brittish man in his 40s or early 50s who wore black pants and a tight-fitting grey turtle-neck. He seemed very american but with very English roots. His accent wasn't very strong, so I image he's been here for a time. It was also obvious that he was a string player because he wanted the pitch to be a tad higher then usual. I love it when conductors are obviously conductors... hehe oh fun times.

I just got the Stephen Speaks cd the other day and I liked it so much!
Thought that i'd put the lyrics of this song up because it seemed appropriate... and beautiful

Coming Home

I'm coming home to see you,
yes I'm coming home tonight.
If the time gone has wronged you
then I'm gonna make it right.
I'm gonna hear how much you missed me
and I'm gonna say the same
How I miss the way you touch me
and the way you say my name.

But don't get used to this coming home thing
Cause next time I'm leaving
You're the one I'm gonna bring.

I'm taking you to Italy,
We're gonna sail to Rome.
If we find Hawaii
then we'll make that our home.
I'm taking you to London,
we'll backpack to France.
But leave this town again without you...
there ain't a chance.

I can see the city lights now,
the plane is almost in
I can't help but giggle at
all the trouble we'll get in
Oh baby, leaving you behind
had to be a sin
But never fear,
cause it ain't happening again.

I'm taking you to Italy,
we're gonna sail to Rome.
If we find Hawaii,
then we'll make that our home.
I'm taking you to London
and we'll backpack to France.
But leave this town again without you...
there ain't a chance

Check out Stephen Speaks music, they're cool.

Here it comes... another facet of my dark side.

Congrads! you've hit my site on a tangent day!

Most days I wake up and feel certain about the future. By that I mean that I'm not afraid of whats out there. Somedays, though, I catch myself worrying. Maybe it's just because of society, maybe it's because of what i've seen in the world... Probably it's both. When I think about what I want in life, I understand that I will have to fight to keep whatever I get.

There are a few people my age who see the world they way I do. These people have a great deal of fear of people and of the future. These kids know exactly how much an individual is worth, and are terrified of others who don't. Most of them set their goals in safe places, becoming very successful over-achievers in their profession of choice. These people go on to make a name for themselves, or cure some evil of greater-humanity. Why do they do this? This way they can't be hurt by the people who don't understand. Because they are afraid. Because they understand that in marriage and relationships people are an independent variable, and people can change their minds.

The problem is that I am not one of these people. I can't kill the hope that someday people will understand. The truth is that sometimes I'm positive that the people I care about do not understand how much they mean to me. If I could, I would do anything for them. A long time ago I learned that it wasn't up to me to take care of everyone. I learned that it was ok to be angry and to question. I leaned it was ok to cry when everything fell on top of me, and, I learned that everything shouldn't be on top of me. It was only later I learned that manipulation and deception both come in innocent and/or unintentional forms.

I also learned the value of the individual.

What do I want in life? Stability. Certainty. Trust. And, most of all, to get back what I give. That's all.

People tell me all the time that i'm "strong" and "reslilant". Honestly, I don't quite know what that means. Can I be broken? I'm not sure. I would like to think not. Do I ever despair? I haven't in a very long time. I suppose this is why people tell me i'm "perpetually optimistic".

I don't really write this for any reason other then to put pieces together in my mind.
Maybe it's just today... who knows why. I don't. I would love for there to be an answer to my questions and an end to my supressed fears... But honestly, only time and only actions will prove or destroy my demons.

Life isn't fair and all we can do is learn, change, and move on.

"Your attention, please."

mmmmm shortbread cookies are definately soul food.. and my soul has a hefty appetite! =D

G'day!

Walking through the airport today I listened to the automated recording that repeats the explicit commandments of American airports: thou shalt not leave thy luggage unattended, thou shalt not park thy car curbside, thou shalt not be/associate with a terrorist, something about smoking and handguns, etc... I'll admit that the first thing that popped into my head was the scene from the movie "Airplane" where the automated voices get into a lover's quarel... but that's not important.

The second thing I noticed was the fact that before announcing a commandment, the automated voice would always say "Your attention please." Being the serious intellectual that I am, my immediate reaction was to stare at the ceiling in mock confusion and blurt out; "God??" Apparently my family found more stupidity than amusement in my joke because they continued walking without more than a glance in my direction. I do enjoy playing the blithering idiot once in awhile.

Seriously though, it's interesting to think about God manifesting Himself through a public over-head speaker system. I mean, that's what we all want, right? We all want God to be a physical audible being who is constantly manifesting himself in instant messages and emails, on street-corners, sports bars, and kitchen counters, and any other time & place we want Him (emphasis on the words "we" and "want"). It seems like the truth is that God is never when or where we want Him to be. He is never close, but always somehow removed from our physical world, our logic, and our consciousness. Or, adversely, He does exist but His nature is somehow flawed or impersonal. Though I don't expect you to agree with me, I cannot believe either of these things. I won't sit here and argue for the existance of God, or even for existance itself... The truth, I believe, is that if you are simply unwilling to entertain/consider the idea that there could be a personal, good God, you have not examined the facts closely enough. "Your attention please" What if God really was speaking to me through that airport speaker? Maybe He knew just how empty and far away from Him I felt today, and so He used those few words to get my attention because He knew that I would pay attention...

Well... that's for you to decide.

Leave me your thoughts/criticisms/questions and/or hate mail. All are appreciated.
=)
I must go (it's FREEZING in here!!!), but I will write soon!
Love you all!

Fragments of Truth...

I don't think that I can say this
My words are wrong
But my eyes
You understand

Somewhere past my good guesses
I can see a new day dawning

Like a newborn
Smiling for the first time
It's the secret
That I never want to hide

You ask me what it is
I say I know
and it shows
Silence my world of questions
I'm letting go
'cause I know
What I feel with you
It's true
I taste a minute of virtue

Song List

There are some days that I wake up and think that I need to analyze myself.... The other day was one of those days.
So...
I decided to put together a playlist of songs (from my own collection) that I think are a good representation of myself in the past and present. In other words, what songs do I put together and what do they tell me about myself... This is what I came up with:

The Luckiest - Ben Folds
Annie Waits - Ben Folds
First Day of My Life - Bright Eyes
Tuesday Morning - Michelle Branch
Everywhere - Michelle Branch
For the Moments I Feel Faint - Relient K
Come Away With Me - Norah Jones
Unintended - Muse
Wanted - Vanessa Carlton
When I Fall - Barenaked Ladies
Mr. Chess - Duncan Shiek
Innocent - Our Lady Peace
Song for the Asking - Simon & Garfunkle
I'll Fly Away - Alison Krauss & Gillian Welch
Light in Your Eyes - Blessid Union of Souls
Forget It - Breaking Benjamin
Deny - Default
Breathing - Yellowcard
One Year, Six Months - Yellowcard
From Underneath - Hawk Nelson
All These Things I've Done - The Killers
Bring It On - Steven Curtis Chapman
Did you Feel the Mountains Tremble - (contemporary worship song)
Harder to Breathe - Maroon 5
and one other song by the Goo Goo Dolls that I don't remember the name of...

By the way, this isn't by any means a true sampling of all the music I listen to... which is strange.

Not all of them have the same meaning for me as for the artist... But then again I imagine some of you will figure out which ones are like that and why. If you don't, and you are extremely curious and/or nosey (hehe i'm kidding, ask me anything), feel free to ask questions. In any case.... I need to go write a paper. I love you all! Have a glorious day.

God Only Knows...

~ ~ ~
Do you ever feel like something is too beautiful for words? When all words lose their value and you are only left with phrases like "I can't describe..." or "I never knew..." it's as if suddenly... somehow, everything makes sense? Reality, your reality, is reconfigured into the form it was always supposed to be in.

Apocalypse.

Truth breaking into the world like sunlight through the clouds.

What an incredible thing. God only knows what i'd be without you...

uuuuuuggghhhhh

Today I think I finally understand what a person feels like when they come out of a coma

There is some disease going around campus and I've caught it. And, wouldn't you know, it's doing it's worst. *half smile* I find it interesting that this particular type of disease (the kind that affects your sinuses and slowly leeks into other parts of your body) is always what I come down with. Luckily i'm not throwing up.. today..

I can't recall a day in my life where I actually spent the whole day sleeping.. Wait, I take that back. The only time in my life that i've spent the whole day sleeping because of sickness was when I had Mono... Today I slept all day. The funny thing is that when I woke up I felt really stiff and fuzzy in the head. It was like all the muscles in my body had suddenly atrophied, and my brain was starting to deteriorate as well... That was a trippy moment. I really didn't feel like the thoughts I was thinking were mine, but rather that I was locked somewhere inside my own brain while someone else was thinking my conscious thoughts... Sounds like grounds for writing ay?

Well in any case, I hope that i'm better by tomorrow because i'm going to class regardless of whether I feel like my thoughts are my own... hehehe. Though it could make for an interesting day in philosophy... Perhaps i'll start channeling Plato or something.. *smirk*

One interesting website I discovered today thanks to Will (though I don't think he knows it yet). The site was:

http://www.venganza.org/

If any of you haven't been to this website I must insist that you go and devour it's contents... This should be where I would write something witty and funny regarding this website, however, I don't think that I have enough functioning brain cells currently... So... Just go read about our magnificent creator; the Flying Spaghetti Monster

May you also be touched by his holy noodly appendage.

What if

What if
I told you
that sometimes
just for a moment
I could see the future;
that suddenly,
it wasn't a dream
or something I made up
inside my head
but something tangible and real.
Something...
that I could wake up to
in the morning
close my eyes to at night

What if
I told you
that the future
is now;
playing out in front of us
like some beautiful
yet complicated dance

What if
I told you
that what I saw
was the simplest
most breath-taking image
i've ever beheld

What then?

The Little Things...

=)

If there is one thing I've learned in the short time i've been in Michigan it's to appreciate the little things.
Today some of my best buddies and I went to the grocery store. We split up, each seeking out different food items. As I was walking down the "pop" isle (I don't remember what it was really called), 2 tiny girls were jumping up and down and giggling in front of me. There wasn't any obvious reason for their excitment, nothing exciting was happening in the grocery store, yet their smiles lit up the whole space. I couldn't help but smile. It's not possible to re-create something so sweet and innocent.

Somewhere in the world a man realizes how beautiful his wife of 50 years really is, a little boy learns how to spell the word "jump", a new mother holds her baby in her arms for the first time, and a frightened young woman suddenly realizes what being in love really means. Underneath it all, we are all innocent. Sometimes it just takes a little bit of time and a lot of looking to see.

Beauty always pops up in times and places you least expect it, like in the grocery store, or in the middle of a terrible day, or in the last week of a summer you couldn't wait to end. That's when God knocks on the back door of your consciousness and says "See? I told you I know what i'm doing."

huh..

For a minute there I almost thought I had it all figured out.

Descartes.... *sigh*

So...

If thinking is the only way I know I exist, then I must not exist as much as Descartes did..... Well maybe you're all figments of my imagination, but this chocolate sure isn't, and by gosh i'm going to enjoy it without wondering whether it's really broccoli or a brick... or a piece of wax... *rolls eyes* I sure hope Descartes wasn't married 'cause midway through sex he'd suddenly be like "you don't exist."

And then she would kill him.

I'm going to... do... something.... something that doesn't involve Descartes in ANY way....

*giggles*

Song

I have called you children, I have called you son.
What is there to answer if I'm the only one?
Morning comes in Paradise, morning comes in light.
Still I must obey, still I must invite.
If there's anything to say, if there's anything to do,
If there's any other way, I'll do anything for you.

I was dressed embarrassment.
I was dressed in wine.
If you had a part of me, will you take you're time?
Even if I come back, even if I die
Is there some idea to replace my life?
Like a father to impress;
Like a mother's mourning dress,
If you ever make a mess, I'll do anything for you

I have called you preacher; I have called you son.
If you have a father or if you haven't one,
I'll do anything for you. I did everything for you

night!

*yawns*

good evening *tired smile*

Though it's technically saturday i'm still on friday time. Today was a pretty normal day, not too much going on here, but I thought i'd write a note on my blog and say whatever came to mind. Tomorrow (or today rather), a bunch of us girls are going camping. Hopefully the weather man will be wrong and it won't rain in the middle of the night. If the prediction is still thunderstorms I might back out.. 5 girls, a 4 person tent, rain, and cold don't really sound like a good combination, especially since this is exactly the time of year that I usually get sick. =P. Normally I wouldn't be so cautious, but I really can't afford to skip classes right now... mmmm well I didn't expect to be this tired. 'night all!

Your Brain's Pattern

Your mind is a firestorm - full of intensity and drama.
Your thoughts may seem scattered to you most of the time...
But they often seem strong and passionate to those around you.
You are a natural influencer. The thoughts you share are very powerful and persuading.

You're an ENFP!

What's there to say about you? You're an initiator of change and are keenly in tune to possibilities... you're enthusiastic, and it's contagious...you're tireless in the pursuit of newfound interests... You can anticipate the needs of others, and offer them needed help and appreciation. You bring zest, livelihood, and fun to all aspects of your life...

You're agreeable, sociable, outgoing and like to imagine yourself in the future... who will you marry? what type of work will you do? where will you live? All questions you ask yourself...you like to keep your options open...you're imaginative...curious...you prefer to understand than judge..

You see endless possibilities. You hate to be boxed into anything -- like a career -- for life...so you hesitate and resist making decisions...always look for new and novel...

You like a learning environment where the teacher takes a personal interest in you...You're motto might be: "There's always a better way or a better answer.."... when you're committed to something, you are enthusiastic to the point of preaching to the whole world about it (...like the Storm Palace?)

Your style of organization is... well, personalized. Others don't really see you as organized, though, do they? YOU know what's where, and there's a "method to your madness," huh?

You have a hard time separating work from leisure, since you have fun while you work. You're always on the lookout for new things... you like learning with others, so you'll invite 'em to join you at films, plays and classes.

When you fall in love, you study the other person in every way. The one you fall in love with is "the best ever" a lot, huh? Sheesh. But others feel unconditionally loved by you ....you fall head over heels and get in love FAST. You are charming...full of vitality...you treat others with sympathy, gentleness, and warmth...

Last part: watch out for losing your focus 'cause you wanna try too many ideas at the same time... you don't prioritize, so you can overload...also, because you're just a fun-loving animal, you might not complete important work and basic responsibilities...

Here is a shortened, free version of the Meyers/Briggs test if you are interested in taking it yourself =D:

http://haleonline.com/psychtest/noframes.php

and after you take the test, go read this analysis of your personality. It describes me almost to a "T". The description the above test gave me isn't nearly as good as this site's, so maybe disregard this entire post... lol... This kind of thing fascinates me... hehe ok so anyway, here is the link:

Hope at least one other person out there is as easily amused/fascinated by these things as me. So, whoever you are, I whole-heartedly expect a long, nerdy, analyitical discussion of these findings at some un-disclosed date... yup. Well now I leave you all and return to my jazz, and homework... but mostly jazz....

Will you take me swing dancing. (?)

=P i'm so clever.

*Something Intelligent!*

Hey guys,

Thanks so much for the support! I'm glad that people actually read what I write, even if it's petty and pointless most of the time.. hehe. Speaking of which, I just wrote an extremely long and almost certainly confusing article on the other blog I write on:

http://god-only-knows.blogspot.com

So you all have to go read it, and post thoughts/concerns/blatant hate notes. I'd really appreciate it. ;-)

Unfortunately writing that actually required brain power and now I'm kinda tired... So maybe I'll write you people more later... hehe.. yup... Well it's nap time, then homework time, then lab for me, so I hope you all have a magnificently glorious day, and I shall speak with you soon.

Much love,
The "Lovable" Lorax

heya friends....and perhaps mortal enemies...!!!???
*raises eyebrow suspiciously*

blukat8504: I am shamelessly licking frosting off of a napkin
blukat8504: it's excellent
JHart311: that is the zaniest thing i've heard since all day...

=D

It's comments like that that occasionally make me wonder what my purpose in life is... lol.

Right. Done. so anyways..

Hope everyone is doing well. Sadly I haven't had a chance to talk to many of you lately, and I hope that'll change soon. Actually I don't even know who reads this anymore besides Wittwer. Do me a favor and leave an acknowledging comment on this post if you read this... hehe thanks. So, I spent a good part of yesterday locked in the basement writing music. I've discovered that I can make a recording on my laptop that is decent enough to hear vocals and piano simultaneously.... yay!!! Hopefully that means I'll actually remember new stuff that I write.. We'll see. I miss the new keyboard... *sniffle*

Well sorry this will be a short post. I accidentally got sucked into writing other things... I think I have ADD.... hmmm... well I love you all and i'll write more later. =D

Pick-up Lines

Alright. I've randomly decided to post a bunch of pick-up lines. We’ve all heard them, used them, received them…. I collected these from people I know and the internet…. Some of them are pretty funny!
Additions are welcome! Just don't get too perverted on me... Don't pretend you don't think they're funny! lol

You've been a bad boy. Go to my room.

“Some people are born great, some achieve greatness….. and others have greatness THRUST upon them.” So…. If I told you that you were great, would you thrust yourself upon me?" (hey!! I told you Shakespeare was a dirty man!!! *laughs evily
Good old Twelfth Night!!)

LESS CLEAN/MORE SCANDALOUS PICK-UP LINES:

I lost my rubber ducky. Would you bathe with me instead?

I'm gonna have to put you on my "To Do" List!

Kiss me if I'm wrong, but weren't we just about to make out?

Damn -- all those curves, and me with no brakes!

Kissing is a language of love....so how about a conversation?

I'm feeling a little off today... Would you like to turn me on?

Wanna play pirate ship? I’ll say “aarg” and you can drive me nutts!

Do you wash your pants in windex ‘cause I can sure see myself in them!

Wanna know a secret? Underneath my clothes… I’m completely naked!

SWEET, CUTE, SAPPY, AND SOMETIMES FUNNY:

Don't let me fall for you if you won't be there to catch me.

I'm not in love with you because you're someone I could live with. I'm in love with you because you're someone I can't live without.

I was going to tell you that I want to love you forever but forever suddenly seemed too short.

Life without you is like a broken pencil... it has no point.

Hershey's makes millions of Kisses each day. I'm just asking for one.

I put a teardrop in the ocean for you... and I'll stop loving you when you find that teardrop.

(Hand a girl a rose.) I just wanted to show my rose how beautiful you are.

I use to dream... but what's the use, now that I've met you?

Let me check out your tag -- yep, just what I thought. "Made in Heaven."

It's not my fault I fell in love -- you're the one who tripped me!

If I could ask God for one thing, it would be to stop the moon so that this night, and your beauty, could last forever.

I'd say "Bless You" when you sneeze, but I can see that God already has.

Two trains are leaving their stations at the same time. Both need to travel 1000 miles. If Train A is going 95 miles an hour, and Train B is going 85 miles an hour, how long will it take for you to go out with me?

My friend back there wants to know if you think I'm hot.

(oh yeah and this one is Joel’s lol!)
Fat penguin... there, I said something to break the ice.

You know, you're the kind of person that inspired poets to write, musicians to compose, and me to say this kind of thing.

Hi, I'm Mr. Right, someone said you were looking for me.

(Guy gives a girl a hug, and starts feeling all around on her back)
Girl: What are you doing??
Guy: Oh, sorry... I was just trying to figure out where your wings were.

You know why I see a psychatrist, don't you? It's because I'm crazy about you!

Hehe well I tried to keep it less sexual and still interesting... meh oh well.. lol. Add what you will in the comments.
That's all i have for now.

Kyla and I got back from class at the same time (about 10min ago), turned on "Fat Borromed Girls" by queen, and danced "Nebraska style", with "flava" if you will.. lol. I love being this easily amused. We are totally where the party is at!!! =P Seriously, Queen can make anyone happy!

My day in __ paragraphs!

Hey there!

Wow today was a long day, but it was a lot of fun as well. My first class started at 10:30 and after that I only had a 2 hour lab in the evening. It sounded like such an easy day, but somehow it turned pretty hectic. My philosophy prof is a cute little Irish man who seems simultaneously entertaining and tough. He told my slightly bewildered class that our grades would not reflect the effort put into the course, but rather how deep our comprehension of philosophy was... *gulp*... Well luckily I've preserved a few strands of confidence...

After philosophy came the horror of the Calvin bookstore! Walking down the sidewalk the other day I was horrified to almost walk into what can only be described as a chaotic RIVER of ants. There was no obvious explanation for their behavior, no visible food source or danger, they just swarmed together forming a frenzied black heap. It was gross, barbaric, mindless, and almost identical to what I found upon entering the bookstore this morning... Enough said.

The rest of my day was a little more humane, but still busy. I ate lunch with my friends, lost a fight with my printer, read the wrong philosophy assignment. You know, the usual. In the evening I went to a meeting, and then myself and the 4 other kids in my leadership team walked around and attempted (somewhat successfully) to explain what it is we actually do at Calvin. Good fun good fun...

Tonight was a good night.. Yes.. Tonight was freshman initiation night. I absolutely love our freshmen, they're great great girls. Our standing tradition involves blindfolding the freshmen girls and leading them around campus to some undisclosed location. The hope is that they won't know where they are or what is going on. Once they arrive, the blindfolds are taken off and our brother floor is standing in front of them singing love songs. After that we all hang out, eat, and get to know people. We had a lot of fun guiding them around the school, and the night turned out to be a lot of fun. After hanging out for awhile most of my girlfriends and I went back to watch the OC (yes you have permission to laugh at my shallow choice of television shows, I'm a little ashamed lol). I'm really excited 'cause I know everyone on my floor and most of our brother floor. It's really amazing how many really nice people I already know this year. I never would have guessed!
~ ~ ~
Well that's about it for me.. I'm looking forward to seeing how everyone else is doing... I was really happy to find out a good friend is home safe! In fact I might have danced around a little bit when I saw that missed call... *looks around* what? *cough*.... I'm so transparent it's almost sad...I do love good stories though... lol. mmmmmm... Well I think it's definitely time for sleep. Tomorrow is the first REAL day of classes and it would probably be beneficial to be conscious... Maybe...

Well goodnight my loves. May the Lord bless you and send His angels to watch over you...

oh! and Wittwer: I love you darlin! I can't even tell you how flattered and humbled I am that you and Steve chose my song... You just might be the most beautiful girl I know, inside and out. Of course I already knew that... Just making sure you know! =D
ok well I'm really going to sleep now.

Goodnight.

that's right...

You Are Esmerelda!
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Mysterious and passionate. You are a survivor. Even though life has swung you some difficult situations you have a strong intuition that gets you through. Also, you have the capacity to sympathize and relate to a variety of different people.

Which Disney Princess Are You?

I'm such a nerd.... =P

First day of school! First day of school!

Happy Memorial day an hour late!

Today marks the end of an extremely interesting and somewhat crazy summer. =D
To celebrate this momentous occasion, a large group of us went to a friend's house and went swimming. It was glorious.... Except for the fact that I was destroyed by the sun. Yes, yes I should know by now that my skin and UV light will never be compatable. I suppose I'm still hanging on to hope that pigment will magically form and allow me to tan.. Well I guess this is just another one of those "reality checks". As a group, we decided that I am my own (very small and pale) race. On my own, i've decided that I am a walking recessive gene and my hypothetical children will be external clones of their hypothetical father. *giggling* Silly genetics....

I have PHILOSOPHY! (note all caps and extra exclamation point!) in the morning. Maybe I'm curious, maybe I just enjoy an intellectual challenge, or maybe I have some sort of twisted desire to be hurled into a mental lion's den. Whatever the reason, i'm totally excited for this class! Honestly, I hope i'm not too banged up by it. Don't think I could take the let down. lol

I love life. =D. For the When I wake up in the morning I feel confident that the day before me will be fulfilling. There is purpose and direction here that feels new somehow. I guess the only thing I can say is that God is good, and i'm really thankful that He's helped tear down the walls I spent so much time building against Him. Mmmm.. freedom... Maybe I can fly.

Talked to some girl friends today and had some deep conversation. Maybe what I missed most was having girls around to talk to whenever necessary... Don't get me wrong, I love you guys deeply and sincerely =). Still, it's always good to have a balance or (generally) a few more friends of the same sex around. Reunification joy aside, however, there are a few people I miss very much... No worries though, I know i'll see you guys soon.

Well I need some sleep. goodnight all!

~Laura~

Aieee!

'mornin all, =D
Once again i'm back to life in the big GR. I think this year is really going to be a great year!

Nothing terribly exciting has happened in the past few days. Half of my floor is dorm leadership this year (which is funny and super-awesome at the same time), and the rest are freshmen. I love our freshmen... lol. It's kinda surprising how quickly you make friends when you feel more confident (or when you're not a freshman from an obscure state). Tuesday was my leadership group's training/retreat day. We drove to Muskeegan to a house on the lake and "chilled" for most of the day. fun times... hmmm so what else is going on (since i'm sure you all are terribly interested)... watched dodgeball, had a random suite dance party, visiting friends in other dorms, shopping (for school of course), late night talks.... yup.. I'm glad to be back... I really do miss my native Nebraskans, especially now...

I'll write more later, but now I need to go eat something. I love you all. God Bless!

~Laura
