You're out there somewhere; a single star in the vast heavens.
Here I stand on the earth, so small and insignificant
my mind, limited by reason, searching for tangible answers
how far away? how brilliant? how real are you?
yet I have reached the boundaries of my understanding and have no answers.
I see you every night when the clouds have past and the moon is dim.
And still I do not trust my eyes.
Still, I do not trust your promises.
How can I accept what I cannot control?
You are beyond me- what I cannot trust.
what I cannot know.
what I cannot comprehend.
And so...
I stand on the earth, so small and insignificant
my mind, limited by reason, searching for tangible answers.
I have no answers.
Only brokenness that is un-done by an invisible, mysterious love.
Hey kids,
Sorry its been so long since i've actually posted something of substance. I'm one of the laziest people I know at times.. In fact, the only reason i'm writing this is because I was supposed to go to the art museum with friends to see a really cool exhibit, but I have a fever of 103 and i'm not sure i'd stay conscious... So! There is a positive side to this sickness, and that is that it gives me an excuse to blog!
How was everyone's Valentine's Day/Single's Awareness Day? I recieved a lot of gifts from people on this oh-so-commercial holiday. My mommie sent me an entire cake... Yes, a cake. Who knew that was possible? In any case, it was a nice surprise, and serves to show that mothers really may possess super powers.
From Will (and yes, he is home now!) I recieved an Omaha Steaks box and momentarily wondered if he had taken my comments about Calvin food service never serving red-meat to heart. Being the clever boy he is, the words "no, it isn't steak" were written across the top in bold letters. hehe. Will sent me a bunch of chocolate and a cd. On the cd, was a recording of him on trumpet playing "fever" which is the song that he asked me to dance to the first time we officially met. hehe. Oh what a wonderful day that was... At first I really thought the recording was a professional recording. Only after listening to it once through did I realize that he was the trumpet player.... I couldn't have asked for a more perfect gift. In 4 days we will have been dating for 6 months! hehe. This may have been the happiest 6 months of my life. =D. Alright alright, i'm done gushing. I don't want to make anyone hurl. hehe. Basically what i'm saying is "Valentines Day was good"...
In other news, i'm applying for an apprenticeship next semester. If I get the job i'll be a worship apprentice, meaning that i'll be on a team of 9 or 10 that plans campus chapel services and leads worship. At first I was reluctant to apply, but I feel like God may be calling me to this kind of work. One of the girls on my floor is one of the current apprentices and as I was filling out the application she walked in and asked me if i'd be interested in applying. hehe. Who knows, maybe its a sign. I'll just have to find out. I'll talk more about it if I am selected, but your prayers are much appreicated (for God to do with me what He wants, and to lead me in whatever direction that is).
I have to defeat this sickness by tomorrow night because I have tickets to the Sigur Ros concert!!! My heart will be shattered if I don't get to go to that concert 'cause they are an amazing group. If cherubim and seraphim sing at the throne of God then i'm sure they sound something like Sigur Ros. If you haven't heard of them, go buy their CD "Takk" and make sure you play it on the best stereo system available... with the lights off. If you don't have a good stereo, then you won't be able to appreciate the full sound. The group is from Iceland, and so none of their lyrics are in english.. which I think adds to the angelic quality of their music. They are the only group that I can sleep to.
Well, I love you all very much, and I promise to blog more often from now on... hopefully. hehe. In any case, take care!
God Bless,
Laura

Bored bored...
1. ONE OF YOUR SCARS, HOW DID YOU GET IT?
One day I was walking down the street and I see this tiny little guy robbing an even smaller old lady. No one else is around, so I say to myself "self, you'd better save that old lady. I mean, how many opportunities are you gonna get where you can save the day because the bad guy is actually smaller than you? You'd better beat the crap out of that shrimpy little robber and pray to God that he doesn't have a gun." So after a moment of deliberation I took off after the guy, caught up, and tackled him. We wrestled around on the ground, fumbling for the purse (He was a little stronger than I had imagined). Then he pulled a knife on me and nearly cut two of my fingers off... To make a long story short, I eventually saved the day and won the hearts of old ladies everywhere, and aside from the love and respect of many, I also earned some scars on my hand where the knife cut me.
The whole story about my room mate slamming my hand in the door while we were being stupid is just a cover story...
2. WHAT IS ON THE WALLS IN YOUR ROOM?

3. WHAT DOES YOUR CELL PHONE LOOK LIKE?

Response to Nilo:
I'm sorry you're trapped by the duties of parenting! On the plus side, renting movies is much less expensive and you get things like deleted scenes... right, well, maybe that helps... lol (probably not).
Memoirs of a Geisha was very good, though I think some would call the story line miraculous and idealistic.. I may secretly be a miraculous idealist so I won't talk... lol. The film-making itself is beautiful, very classic and beautiful. I really liked it and I would reccomend it. Will is taking a class in India, so I won't get to see him or talk to him very often until Febuary. Never-the-less, our relationship is wonderful and the distance hasn't been a problem! Thank God for that! I'm very lucky and very grateful...
Take care and God bless!!

Take care and God bless!!

wait, what?
I'm on a Maroon 5 kick for some reason... What is it about their songs that is so sexy??
It's really frickin hard to distract yourself when your boyfriend is in India. haha. I am such a man sometimes.... Luckily i'm a good kid. =D
Today I went to a lecture done by the author of pope John Paul II's biography. It was a really good talk. And right now I just want to rock out to Maroon 5 and make this a really short post. Not that I don't love you all, because I do. I'll write more later when there is more to write. And tonight, Memoirs of a Geisha (again) with friends here! Sorry for this ADD post.
I miss you Will.
Bye all!

Moo?
Hello all,
Happy holidays to all and late birthday to me! Yes, I am another year older (wiser is debatable). Its strange to imagine that my teenage years have run out and now adulthood stands staring me in the face. At the moment I still feel like a deer caught in the headlights. Lately i've found myself questioning the things I do more seriously, and rethinking things like social constructs and obligations. College, for example, is a social institution. I love college and the learning that goes on here. I also understand that the structure of colleges and universities functions to ensure stability and proficiency in learning skills and knowledge for future careers. However, many people would agree that skills and career preparation shouldn't be the only purpose of college. Sometimes I wish I could just audit classes for my entire life. I'd use what I learned as fuel for everything else I want to do. My mom tells me that this is because i'm "an artist". Not that I consider myself exceptional at the things I aspire to. Perhaps i'm just lazy. I know people who love to keep a schedule and channel a lot of their energy into organizing time. This brings them satisfaction and fulfillment because they get a lot accomplished. Though I am perfectly capable of being organized, it brings me little satisfaction because it hinders me from being creative. In the past I haven't let this bother me too much, but lately it's caused me to question everything i'm doing in life.
I want to go to college. I love learning and I love being stretched intelectually. I also love writing music. Both of these things I would like to pursue as far as I can because I want to know what capacity I have for them. Leaving school here to pursue music is out of the question because I am afraid... of.... myself I suppose. What if I turned out to be wrong and I failed, or I didn't like the success I found? Adversely, what if I kept going in school and eventually became a councilor (as I really want to). It may be too late to pursue anything in music at that point. I don't think i've ever been truly unhappy when considering my options before, but right now i'm very confused. I need to find a way to balance these things because I can't give up either one. Unfortunately while i'm here in school I have very little access to a piano and very limited time to play anyway. There is no privacy in which to play. When i'm home I have more time but it is often taken up by friends and family (which is a great blessing otherwise). I had hoped to get more accomplished over break but our house was occupied for most of the day by workmen (and I understand this too, i'm not mad about it), and the evenings were generally scheduled with friends or family (Break was wonderful by the way!). So it's not that i'm unhappy with life, i'm just confused about what I want and how to get it. But anyways....
*sigh* I'm going to stop whining now. The religion class i'm taking is a lot of fun. It strays far from orthodox conversation (or at least from conservative Christian conversations) about sex and birth. The ideas aren't extremely un-orthodox, but the information we cover is fantastic. Actually, come to think of it, we haven't really discussed any "ideas" about sex and birth, just how the ancients percieved the acts. Our prof encourages us to speak our minds and makes remarks on some unorthodox subjects that you wouldn't normally expect a religion prof to make blatantly. I came late to the first session because my flight out of Chicago the night before was cancelled and I was forced to spend the night there and fly out in the morning(rolls eyes). So anyways, I walked in late to my class right as the professor was telling us how the course discussions would go. My timing was really akward. "For purposes of neutrality and valuable conversation we are going to assume that everyone and no one in this class has had sex with an animal." At that I knew I was in the right place... wait, that sounded terrible... ur.. nevermind. Its good to be a religion major. It was so hard to stop myself from making beastiality jokes for the rest of the day.... hehehe.
Well on that note.. i'm gonna go...
Take care and God Bless!
